Buffalo National River Area

The Buffalo National River area offers some of the best hiking and backpacking in the Ozarks.  There is so much to see and so much to do that you could spend weeks in the area and only scratch the surface of what there is to explore.  Many of the best sites in the area are great for day trips and make for some amazing overnights.  The areas listed below are some of the most iconic sites with some of the best views and features in the area and the Ozarks in general. 


Buffalo River Trail

The Western section of the Buffalo River Trail or BRT follows along the Buffalo National River for 36 miles from Boxley to Pruitt.   The trail winds along the bluffs, gravel bars and banks that cradle the river in its ever-changing terrain.


Big Bluff

Big Bluff is located within the Ponca Wilderness Area in Arkansas and towers 550 ft above the river valley, giving you an amazing unrestricted view of the surroundings.


Hemmed-In Hollow

Hemmed-In Hollow is nestled within the Ponca Wilderness Area and has the highest waterfall between the Appalachian and Rocky Mountains, cascading 210 ft over the bluff’s edge.
