SUMMARY:Sequiota Cave Boat Tours
DESCRIPTION:Cave enthusiasts, be they beginners or experts, can explore one of Springfield's historic caves this spring.  The Springfield-Greene County Park Board is, again, conducting boat tours of Sequiota Cave at Sequiota Park.  The tours are scheduled for March 10-11, 17-18, 24-25 and March 31-April 1.  Registration begins at 9 a.m. each day and space is limited.  The fee is $5 per person.  All Tours are subject to cancellation due to bat migration, inclement weather or White Nose Syndrome (WNS).  Visitor can also check out the bat cave and the on-site awareness displays.  For more information call Melvin Johnson at 833-8647.

SUMMARY:Wilderness Remote Rescue and First Aid
DESCRIPTION:This class is designed for individuals who have already received Wilderness First-Aid training, or some other equivelant medical training.  This is an intense 2 day class, designed to allow the students to participate in as close to real life practical training as possible.  Each participant will be camping with other students and be exposed to a variety of real life first aid practicals. The students will work in small group and will be required to locate, diagnose, treat and remove any injured parties that may need to be removed in the scenarios.   This may include building a litter or other device to carry the injured person to safety.  Some of the scenarios will be the rescue and treatment of a person from a cold mountain river, a fall from a cliff, insect/animal bites, heat related illness, mechnical injuries and unknown injuries/medical issues.  Each student will need a first-aid kit and materials to treat patients, along with the ability to build a litter or other device to remove patients to safety. SUMMARY:Advanced Land Navigation and Survival
DESCRIPTION:    This class is for those that really want to refine and hone their survival skills and have completed our Survival Class Series. This class will be similar to the format of the Advanced Survival Class, in other words, each student will only be allowed 1 candybar, 1 liter of water and no camping or sleeping gear etc for the class.   The students are allowed a backpack, survival kit and their clothing and will be asked to navigate to find pre-determined locations via the use of a map and compass.  On average the mileage will be from 6 to 8 miles per day and at the end of each day, the student will have to use their survival skills to locate and obtain safe drinking water, food, shelter, fire etc.   This is the only class of it’s kind in the midwest and each student will be required to sign a liability waiver. SUMMARY:Basic Survival Class
DESCRIPTION:This class is phase I of the survival training provided by Ozark Adventure in collaboration with Hiking the Ozarks and will cover the basics of outdoor survival which include instruction on survival kits, the psychology of survival, shelter, water, fire, and preparation for rescue. The class will consist of both classroom and field exercises with practical examinations in fire starting, water filtration and shelter construction. Instructor Dan Nash is the organizer of the Ozark Mountain Trailblazers and an experienced backpacker, hiker, and rock climber.  He has extensive experience in the Rocky, Appalachian and Cascade Mountain ranges, along with international arenas such as Iceland, Canada, Mexico, Patagonia, and other regions.
